…what is Seva?
Seva is a Sanskrit word meaning “selfless service”. In ancient India, it was believed that helping others leads to spiritual growth, and it is important that we do not forget that in today’s modern world, where it can be so easy to spend our time being angry and pointing fingers. The idea of selfless service (seva) is an important concept in life because it puts interest in the well-being of others as well as in ourselves. We must remember that today.
And guess what? It is really easy to practice your seva. Just help people! “Helping out is not some special skill. It is not the domain of rare individuals. It is not confined to a single part of our lives. We simply heed the call of that natural impulse within and follow it where it leads us.” – Ram Dass
So next time you see an opportunity to help someone, or feel that impulse within, follow it. Heed the call. Lend a helping hand. Try to make someone’s day, and it will make yours.
